Jay report #1

There's an awesome fat dog at work named Jay. He is sneaking around the office as I speak checking out people's trash cans. He waddles when he walks but he hauls ass when he's in trouble. Today he stole a coworker's roastbeef sandwich. Not the first time either. :)

Been really busy but here's a couple of post-it note sketches. Thank you Mr. Postit for inventing the post-it note.

Nature Girl Painting

A new post?! So soon?!! Yeah so I painted this as a demo in a cartooning class that I'm teaching. I finished it at home after the class and I'm pretty happy with it. Simple stuff like this is always fun to do.

It has some irridescent colors on it so it sparkles in the light on her eyes and the wings on the bug. It's also on the green spots in the background. Hope you like it! :D

Serpent Witch Aquaria & Nature Kid!!!

I was going to show some students a painting demo so I planned to do a really simple drawing for it. What started as just a head sketch (I did the prelim sketch on a post it note) became almost a full illustration. Oops! Well I don't have time to paint it anytime soon, definately not during classtime. So then I did this:

Much simpler and I can definately finish it in at most a couple hours...and I like it in all it's simplicity. :) Oh yeah, I'm going to paint them in acrylics.

more sketchbook pages

I'm only able to post a few more random sketchbook pages for the time being...I have a Zelda piece that I am working on too so I'll post that whenever I get a chance to finish it.

Sergio Headcanon

This is Sergio Headcanon. The above picture is after a weapon upgrade and a lot of practice. Below is when he first got his headcanon attatched (I may do a comic book showing how after I finish this other project I got going). Coincidentally his last name was already 'Headcanon'. Funny how things like that work out. :)

The top image was superimposed onto a photograph I took cause it looked cool (to me at least) and the other two were painstakingly drawn onto post it notes. Sweet!

Lotsa Starbucks sketchbook shtuff

A lot of these were done at Starbucks and the colored ones at Sherman Oaks Galleria. Lots of goofy people. The top picture of that model and the fourth picture were done from magazines...they weren't at Starbucks unfortunately.

This is the third post in a row that I've posted stuff dominantly brown so next post will be more colorful, hopefully. ;) Thanks for any feedback!

Annie Poem

Hopefully a big step up from the pencil version. I guess this has Tim Burton's influence without stepping on his toes as far as style goes. You know, dark characters with a sense of humor. A light side.

Also, there's a lot of gimmicky 'goth' characters all over stores like Hot Topic and whatever. It kind of cheapens the genre. To me anyway. I just want to create characters with a little more substance...not just icons. That's one of the reasons why I like Tim Burton. His characters are real, not just sticker-and-lunch-box-fodder. You can stick them in just about any situation and come up with a fun story. Just my thoughts.... ;)

Scrap the Bandit Metal Slime

I used to play a lot of videogames and still do when I get the chance. One of the first games I got was 'Dragon Warrior' (aka Dragon Quest) which came free with a Nintendo Power subscription. The slimes that were in the game are super popular since Dragon Quest is up to part VIII now with more coming out this year.

This painting I did after work a while back with a goal to finish that night. I could've made a detailed painting out of it like making the background more like a map but this was more just for fun. 'Scrap the Bandit Metal Slime' is what I call him.

Look at all these toys they have just for these slimes!:

Maggoty Anne & Patches

There's a short poem that'll go with this but I'll put it onto the colored version whenever I get around to doing it. I want to do a different color scheme than the Midnight Pumpkin Panic piece (see below May 15, 2006). Please lemme know what you think!

Trixie the Psycho Bitch Cereal

If you look at a lot of art blogs, you've probably seen a lot of people doing cereal box covers for a book called "Cereal Killers." Well this is the one was done in Flash awhile back. Buy the book whenever it comes out! ;)

Target Shopping Cart Guy

I went to the Target near my work and I saw this army guy there who was in charge of the shopping carts. He inspired this doodle above.

Washes

A couple of ink wash sketches I did and the paper got all wrinklededed up. These are a bit aged but I keep working on stuff that I can't show on the blog and I would like to keep this somewhat updated. Enjoy! :)

Cat Beast/ Radioactive 70s Microwave

The above sketcj is a character that I was designing for a story that I'l be working on soon. No, she's not a furry but I don't want to lose that tail.

I was reheating my lunch at work today in our nasty microwave. Everytime you use it, you can smell the ancient food which is splattered on the inside being cooked again....and everytime I use it, I get the feeling that it's shooting radiation straight into my brain. I did this sketch on a post it note.

Happy Munshter

Above is an acrylic painting that I did called Happy Munshter.
He hates his cage but he wouldn't have to stay there if he'd just stop eating the neighbor's pets!

Midnight Pumpkin Panic

This is a piece that I did quite awhile ago. I just had to post it though. Sometimes I look back at older artwork that I've done and decide to go back in that direction as far as style goes...

Jakers Wins Emmys

Jakers won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Children's Program and Maile Flanagan (Piggley's voice) won for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program. They all did a great job on a fun show. This was for the first season so I wasn't working on it yet...(I helped work on the second season which hopefully we'll win for next year ). The two pictures above I drew for an advertisement. I'd draw the pose, then it gets done in 3D. I don' t think either of the drawings were used though. They went for a more simplified layout.

Piper

Okay so here's an unfinished sketch of a skeleton pied piper. It was a doodle that I kept adding to so it wasn't planned out at all but I still like the idea. It'd be a fun story to work on so I'll save it for later... next time I'll give him some pants.
